It may not have been cold outside, but that didn’t stop lauded Italian eatery Carluccio’s unveiling a feast of Christmas Gifts at its annual Xmas showcase this week. With suitably festive set dressing, it previewed a wide range of artfully packaged treats due on sale later this year. Inside ID dropped by for a sneaky tasting.

All the festive sets will be available from October, both in-store and online.

Amid fake Xmas trees and delicious canapes (Carluccio’s arancini balls and calamari are to die for) , the chain teased a variety of superb candied treats. These were some of our favourites…

Famed for its festive Panettone, shoppers can look forward to a zestful Limoncello gift set, consisting of white chocolate covered Panettone with Sorrento filling and lemon peel (£20). If you prefer a more traditional approach, Carluccio’s will also offer a Panettone with hazelnut glaze, sultanas and candied peel (£18) – apparently the recipe dates back 100 years. A more modern chocolate version will also available, with milk and dark chocs taking the place of the dried fruit.

Alternatively, Carluccio’s aims to tempt with its Panettone Alla Proscecco, which features a heady mix of custard and fizz. Carluccio produces its Panettones from September through December. But can we really wait that long?

There’s some seasonal surprises on the way. New for 2018 will be Calabrian figs soaked in rum and double coated in dark chocolate (£13). We were also rather drawn to the Pitta Mpigliata, a sweet pastry cake stuffed with fruit and nuts (a great gift at £11).

As you might expect from Carluccio’s, all its Christmas gifts will be sourced from specialist Italian producers, so you know the quality is going to be exceptional.

And if you’re looking for a premium advent calendar, then Carluccio’s has you covered too. Its luxury calendar (£85) includes chocolate truffles, Piemontese biscuits, risotto, oils and more. If that’s too rich, then the £10 Gianduja Hazelnut chocolate calendar is a delicious impulse buy for those with a sweet tooth.

As unusual, Carluccio’s elfs will also be busy packing gift boxes and hampers this autumn. The £75 Il Massimo contains classic Milano Panettone, amaretti biscuits, candied clementine segments and copious chocolats. Buyers will also be able to create their own hampers online!

New this year will be the Il Terzetto (£18), which features a trio of Truffle based condiments: a Tritato for Crostini, honey for cheese and oil for pasta. There’s also the Il Pentolone (£30), which comes in a scarlett hat box, and contains a selection of artisan pastas.

There’s also a wide range of cooking oils and indulgences incoming (we rather like the Prosecco and Gianduiotti combo). Everything you need for a very Merry Christmas in fact.
